Davanagere District

Davanagere (also known as Davangere) is a city in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is the administrative headquarters of Davanagere District. The city of Davangere is located on NH4 (National Highway 4) at a distance of about 260 km from the state capital of Bangalore . Davangere became separate district in 1997, it was separated from the district of Chitradurga.

Previously known for its cotton mills, it is a fast developing city of Karnataka . There was a time when the city was aptly called 'Manchester of Karnataka' due to its excellent quality of cotton produced in its cotton mills and hand looms. More »

Places to see

Kunduvada kere (Official name: Mallikarjuna sagara Parivartita Kunduwada Kere) in Davanagare, is a picturesque lake. It is one of the sources of drinking water for the city. Other one is a lake at T.V. Station. This place offers good view of sunset and is a popular picnic spot

Soole kere (Shanthi Sagara), near Davanagere, is a major water supply source.

Lord Siddeshwara temple There is a temple dedicated to Lord Siddeshwara near the lake.

An Aqua duct designed by Sir M Vishweshwariah is also a major tourist attraction. The government is taking steps to spruce up tourist attractions in the area.

Harihar is located very near to Davangere - 14 km. Famous Harihareshwar Temple is in Harihar on the banks of Tungabhadra river. This is an old temple worth the visit.

Eshwara temple at the village - Bagali - 6 km from Harapanahalli - A town in the Davangere district.

Distance:-	By Air : Davanagere does not have any airport. The nearest airport is at Hubli and the nearest International airport is at Bangalore . By Rail : Davanagere is connected to Miraj, Bangalore and Mysore by regular trains. The City Railway station is located in the heart of the city. By Road : Davanagere is linked with Pune, Bangalore , Shimoga and Hospet by road.
