Bangaluru.org - "Irpu Falls" Waterfalls in Karnataka

Irpu Falls 14 km from Nagarhole. Nagarhole is 210 km SW of Bangalore . This waterfalls is amidst of lush green Western Ghats and is located at about 50kms from Madikeri and 20kms from NagarahoLe National Park. This stream will later join river Kaveri. This tributary is called LakshmaNa Teertha who origin is in the Brahma Giri peaks in side the Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary. The other places of interest nearby are Brahmagiri peak, a place called pakshi-pataLa. Except the waterfall all other places are inside the wildlife sanctuary and need permission to enter the sanctuary. This waterfall is also known as LakshmaNa teertha falls.

According to legend, when Lord Rama and Lakshmana were searching for Sita, they became thirsty. Lakshmana shot an arrow into the Brahmagiri from which the river sprang. Lord Rama is said to have dedicated a Shiva Kshethra known as Rajeshwara Temple on the banks of river Lakshmana Teertha. The Lakshmana Teertha river eventually flows into the Kaveri River.
